Schedule For the Week

With the help of the website 'Teamup' I have created a schedule for the group including filming days and blog posts which need to be created. The site allows me to create both an individual schedule for each team member as well as a group schedule which will help us plan what we need to do each week and improve our organisation. You can visit our current weekly schedule by visiting the link above.

Ready For Filming

Our planning process is coming to an end now, our thriller storyboard is complete and we are ready to begin filming.  We are running out of things to do in class regarding planning so Ella has decided to explore the presentation side of our thriller and is trying to find the best website for this purpose. We are going to be filming the flashbacks on Saturday before I go away on holiday to ensure that our filming process is underway.

Risk Assessment

        Risk assessment from WeMadeIt99

Before filming begins, a risk assessment needs to be completed on all possible locations. This is necessary as it would be a danger to film in a location where there could be hazards that we are unaware of. We have four possible locations that we could use to film so above is the hazards that we could face in these areas.

Twitter Poll Results

Made with OnlineChartTool.Com

The results of our poll have concluded that the most favoured plot is the 'trapped hostage' idea, with 52% of the votes. Hence, we will be using this audience feedback to sculpt our storyline for our thriller opening.

Title Sequence Analysis

Title Sequence Analysis by wemadeit

A title sequence is the opening of a film where a film presents it's title, cast and crew members and generally sets the mood of a film. I particularly focused on the film 'Psycho' and it's title sequence created by Saul Bass who was very well known for his designs of film posters and title sequences.

Initial Ideas Mood Board

Although we still haven't decided on a main plot for our thriller opening, I decided to create a mood board which incorporates all my favourite types of thrillers and touches upon some of our groups first draft ideas. I decided to use a limited colour spectrum as I feel thrillers are best executed in dark lighting, however there is a hint of orange as I sometimes a slight drop of a brighter colour can show hope within the evil.

Thriller Codes and Conventions

This video explores the codes and conventions of a thriller in an entertaining layout. It was helpful as a means of editing practice as getting the timing right for the animations proved stressful. Hopefully you find it interesting and I would recommend watching with volume for the full effect.

Cape Fear Analysis

Analysis of the opening of thriller film 'Cape Fear' to further our knowledge of the genre and its codes and conventions to use in our own opening.

Cape Fear Analysis

In order to further our knowledge of the thriller genre and gain inspiration, we have analysed the crime, thriller Cape Fear. The film follows a convicted rapist who is released from prison after serving a fourteen-year sentence, only then to stalk the family of the lawyer who originally defended him. Here is my analysis of the opening, frame by frame.

Cape Fear Analysis

This analysis is of the opening of thriller film Cape Fear. The story follows Max Cady (Robert De Niro) who was wrongfully sentenced. After his release after 14 years, he devotes his life to stalking and destroying the life of attorney Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte), who knew the real truth about Cady's crime. By analysing thriller openings, the groups knowledge of the thriller genre has been widened, and this can be put to use when creating our own thriller opening.

Prelim Complete!

Our continuity error has been fixed at the end meaning that our Preliminary Video is now complete. A video will be uploaded soon of our group discussion reflecting on our decisions that we made during the entire process. Feedback is vital moving forward as we need to know what works well and what doesn't in order to make our work as efficient as possible.

1st Draft of Prelim

1st draft of our Prelim.
We struggled with some technical difficulties regarding storage and sound however we have fixed this to create out first draft of the prelim. We have spotted a slight continuity error in the last five seconds of the clip as Robyn is facing George instead of the wall however we plan to re-shoot and edit this to make it complete.

Filming the Prelim

These are several pictures of us behind the scenes while we filmed our prelim. Robyn and George starred in it while Tom and I guided them to ensure that the prelim was of a good quality.

Planning Process

Our planning process begun with a quick mind map of ideas until we decided on a general idea and plot for the prelim, however we thought it'd be more efficient to make the rest of the decisions as we went along. We then went for a walk around the school to find a suitable location for filming.
In our first chosen location we encountered some problems as we were disrupted by the noise of a classroom so we found a much quieter spot of the school instead which proved successful as we were only disrupted on one occasion by a student passing by. Despite the spontaneity being a problem at first, overall it saved us a great deal of time, having almost completed our prelim by the end of the hour. All that is left to do now is to correct a minor continuity error which means we will have to re-film the final section here in one frame Robyn is looking at George and the next she is looking away, however this shouldn't take too long and you can expect our completed prelim to come in the next few days.

Year 13 Talk

Read more publications on Calaméo

In order to kick-start our blog and coursework process, we first had a visit from the Year 13s who created their thriller openings last year. The students helped give useful advice and answer any questions we had in order to prevent us from making the same mistakes they made, from remembering to always charge your phone prior to filming, to what apps they found most useful. Here is a list created of some of the key points which were brought up in the discussion which we will bare in mind as we progress in to coursework production.
